The Awake Youth Project is an expression of BZC’s broader commitment to social engagement and taking the practice of meditation and mindfulness to populations that might not normally have access to them. More specifically, the Initiative focuses on introducing these tools for effectively engaging difficult emotions and life circumstances to youth through mindfulness in education programs in an effort to alleviate the suffering and harm they frequently experience. Currently the Awake Youth Project consists of four programs:
1. Ongoing mindfulness and meditation in high schools with a focus stress, anger, and violence
2. Mindfulness of stress training with college students at Polytechnic Institute
3. The Jazz Mindfulness Program for teens
4. Weekly, teen-led meditation group for teens at Brooklyn Zen Center
If you are interested in helping to fund or support Brooklyn Zen Center's Awake Youth Project in any way, please contact Brooklyn Zen Center's Director, Greg Snyder, at 718-701-1083. Your support helps to expand programming that allows the practice of mindfulness and meditation to positively affect the lives of many of Brooklyn's youth who might never feel comfortable entering a meditation hall.
