Please join the Erica Essner Performance Co-Op for a new forum called Dance Intersection. Dance Intersection is a performance/dialogue that will include excerpts of a new dance project and a discussion on live music for dance, from both the dancer’s and the composer/musician’s perspective.
The company has created Dance Intersection in an effort to gather more information from our audiences about the current work we are in the process of creating. This Dance Intersection features live music by composer Miguel Frasconi and special guests. Dance Intersection is a new model of engaging audiences with the Erica Essner Performance Co-Op in an effort to create dialogue around dance creation as our primary platform for dance presentation. The company will open up its creative process in a series of ongoing studio forums with an emphasis on dance-making.
Please RSVP here. The event is free; however, donations are accepted. Please reserve a space in advance as tickets are limited. You do not have to bring your printed ticket.
Miguel Frasconi uses glass objects, electronics, keyboards, and “de-evolved” instruments to create music that sounds from a uniquely imagined tradition. His instruments have been called “a beautiful menagerie of pealing contraptions” (Time Out NY), while his music has been called “lyrical and stormy” (New York Times). He has worked with many of new music’s most respected composers, has studied the music of South India, West Africa, and Indonesia, and has explored early 20th century experimental forms, including the work of the Dada and Fluxus movements. He has created over three dozen dance scores and received a 1997 Isadora Duncan Dance Award for his work with Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, and recently performed with modern dance pioneer Anna Halprin at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He has collaborated with the Balinese composer I Dewa Berata on music for a new large-scale shadowplay, and has performed with the Tibetan songwriter Techung in concerts throughout India. Frasconi’s early work includes nine years as a founding member of THE GLASS ORCHESTRA, the internationally acclaimed new music ensemble featuring all glass instruments. His recent activities include a new score for choreographer Alonzo King, performances with electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick, a newly commissioned work for Gamelan Son of Lion, and concerts with the composers collective Ne(x)tworks.
