Similar to a walk-a-thon, the 2019 Brooklyn Zen Center (BZC) Sit-A-Thon is a fundraiser where instead of walking all day, we will meditate!
We will spend the day sitting together in order to raise funds to support BZC’s many offerings and programs: Awake Youth Project teen meditation, the People of Color Group, Undoing Whiteness and Oppression, Undoing Patriarchy and Unveiling the Sacred Masculine, Sacred Feminine, Buddhism and the 12 Steps of Recovery, Soto Zen training, and the scholarship fund!
The format will be open. You can join us for an hour, or for the entire day. And please bring your families! If you are not able to join us at BZC at all, you are also welcome to be a “virtual sitter” and join the sit-a-thon from wherever you are. At BZC, the day will conclude with a community party in celebration of our month-long fundraising effort!
10 am: Sit-A-Thon begins
12-1:30 pm: Lunch
5:00 pm: Sit-A-Thon ends
5-6 pm: Community party
You can support the BZC Sit-a-Thon here by:
1 – Setting up your own fundraising page;
2 – Donating to one of the sitters;
3 – Donating directly to BZC.
Access Notes: There is one short flight of stairs leading to the Carroll Street entrance of the building; please press 3-0 to be buzzed in. From there, the center is located at the top of a longer flight of stairs. A ramp and elevator are available via an alternate entrance on President Street; please email us in advance if you need access to the ramp. Chairs, benches, and extra support cushions are available. We are not yet a fragrance-free space; our hand soap is scented with essential oils. Visit our Accessibility Page for more detailed access info. If you have any additional questions about accessibility, please contact us at email@example.com.
