About Yoko

Yoko OhashiIt is Yoko’s heart’s joy to share the practice of meditation with others. She has been studying Zen Buddhism since Brooklyn Zen Center was first founded 10 years ago under the guidance of Teah Strozer.  Native to Osaka, Japan, Yoko originally came to NYC to become an artist, and following her heart eventually led her to practice yoga and meditation. Her own experience of studying with others in a community clarified for her the absolute importance of having a sangha when one wants to start meditation practice. She looks forward to holding heart-mind with others and enjoying the process of studying self together.

About Jefre

Jefre CantuJefre Cantu has been practicing Zen Buddhism under the guidance of Soshin Teah Strozer since 2003. He received the Bodhisattva precepts from her in 2005 at the San Francisco Zen Center and has been a member of the Brooklyn Zen Center community since moving to New York in 2013. Currently Jefre is interested in the non special, everyday quality of Zen practice and how it can be the foundation of our day to day lives.

Access Notes: There is one short flight of stairs leading to the entrance to the building. Please press 3-0 to be buzzed in. The center is located at the top of a steeper second staircase of around 20 steps. A ramp and elevator are available via an alternate entrance; please email in advance if you need access. Chairs, benches, and extra support cushions are available. We are not yet a fragrance-free space; our hand soap is scented with essential oils.
