Please join us for our usual Second Saturday morning schedule on July 13. The program will include practice and discussion guided by Kiku Morimoto and Jefre Cantu. The program will begin at 11 am and will follow a period of zazen starting at 10:20 am. Meditation instruction will be at 9 am. A community lunch will be served.
About Kiku Morimoto
Kikuko Morimoto was born in Kobe, Japan, and is currently a sewing teacher and co-facilitator with the BZC People of Color sangha at Brooklyn Zen Center. She is an artist and a Japanese teacher who has been practicing meditation since she took her 10-day silent Vipassana meditation course in 1995. After she practiced at Village Zendo in Manhattan, NY, Kikuko joined the BZC sangha, where she has served as co-Tenzo (head of kitchen) and as Fukuten (assistant to the Tenzo) and was lay ordained by Soshin Teah Strozer in 2017.
About Jefre Cantu
Jefre Cantu has been practicing Zen Buddhism under the guidance of Soshin Teah Strozer since 2003. He received the Bodhisattva precepts from her in 2005 at the San Francisco Zen Center and has been a member of the Brooklyn Zen Center community since moving to New York in 2013. Jefre is a graduate student at Union Theological Seminary, working towards a Masters of Divinity focused on Buddhism and interreligious engagement. Currently Jefre is interested in the non special, everyday quality of Zen practice and how it can be the foundation of our day to day lives.
Access Notes: There is one short flight of stairs leading to the Carroll Street entrance of the building; please press 3-0 to be buzzed in. From there, the center is located at the top of a longer flight of stairs. A ramp and elevator are available via an alternate entrance on President Street; please email us in advance if you need access to the ramp. Chairs, benches, and extra support cushions are available.
