Sound Bath greeters are part of the shika ryo and they welcome guests into our beloved spiritual home at BZC and help everyone feel at home as they take part on an inner journey of relaxation and transformation. By using frequency and “entrainment,” a sound bath facilitates a shift in brainwaves from our normal waking state to alpha and theta states that are akin to meditation—where true somatic healing can occur.
Sound Bath greeters help take care of the container for this experience. They greet newcomers and regulars at the door as they are about to embark on a soundscape journey. They take care of the mats and cushions for tired bodies to rest. They pay intimate attention to light and sound helping to facilitate the transition from bustling city to tranquil sound bath. And they get to partake in the journey themselves!
Being a Sound Bath greeter is one of the several opportunities to practice wholehearted activity at the Brooklyn Zen Center. Wholehearted activity is a central practice in our Zen tradition and in our Brooklyn sangha. All practitioners – to the degree each is able – are invited to take part in the care of our practice container, the community and our physical space.
As a Sound Bath greeter you would need to be available for a one-time training session and then placed on a pool of greeters to be called upon, depending on your availability and interest.
If you are interested in being a part of the Sound Bath greeters’ team, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Sound Bath greeters”.
