Description

A Buddhist-led, inter-faith day-long practice and pilgrimage in NYC and with its peoples. Inspired by the Buddhist Monks’ 2,300-mile Walk for Peace.

Organized by a broad community of Dharma practitioners, this day of practice invites us to come together across neighborhoods and traditions — walking, chanting, and sharing in collective healing.

Brooklyn Zen Center is proud to support this gathering as a community partner. We encourage all BZC sangha members to join, whether for part of the day or the whole pilgrimage. We are helping to spread the word and support MahaSangha NYC in bringing the community together.

We will resist supremacy and violence of all forms by insisting on love for one another and a deep sense of belonging for each and every being. We will resist by insisting on our inter-being, on non-separation. May our choices and actions on this day and on all days come from this insistence. May we respond to the crises of these times from this insistence.

When: Sunday, July 12th, 2026
Time: 8am – 8pm
Where: Two separate groups will meet in the Bronx and Staten Island, followed by a convergence in Manhattan at the African Burial Ground monument. Further stops include Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center and Gantry State Park in Queens. Follow @mahasanghanyc or visit mahasanghanyc.com for the latest details.
We will move together through the city, meeting at gathering spots in each borough. We will do sitting and walking meditation, transferring merit and metta practice, chanting and ceremonies for everyone’s safety and protection. The day will culminate in a joyful gathering, with songs, poetry, movement, and practice.

You are welcome to join for the full journey or any part of the day.

Details on route, timing, and locations will be shared soon.
