Our Garden Planting Month was a success! Thank you to the many sangha members who visited this past month to help plant the garden. Together we have planted abundant veggies: potatoes, peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, basil, parsley, cilantro, daikon, beets, spinach, collards, kale, cabbage, chinese cabbage, bok choy, peas, onions, burdock, lettuce, tomatillos, scallions; and beautiful flowers: dahlias, zinnias, snapdragons, petunias, and cosmos!
Now we are looking ahead to Garden Harvest Month (August 8–September 3), when we will be harvesting the fruits of our labor! Is there anything better than eating fresh, sun-ripened tomatoes straight off the vine? We invite you to join us and spend time at Ancestral Heart Zen Temple in Millerton, NY, picking and preserving the overflowing fruits of the year’s harvest. Tomatoes, peppers, green beans, peaches…whatever doesn’t fit into our bellies has to be processed into jars and freezers for the winter months. Spend some time in the garden, spend some time in the kitchen, and join this joyful communal celebration of the earth’s gift of life.
All Brooklyn Zen Center (BZC) members are warmly invited to join us for short-term practice, anywhere between a few days to the whole month. Our daily schedule for the month will include three periods of zazen, two work periods, three vegetarian meals, and time for rest, hiking, & swimming.
If you would like to join us and are not a BZC member yet, please learn more about membership here.
