Kikuko Morimoto was born in Kobe, Japan. She began taking painting classes at an early age focusing on watercolor and oil painting. Despite initial plans to study painting in college, she shifted to studying film at Osaka University of Art. While studying film both at Osaka University of Art and California College of Arts, she continued to paint on her own. She then worked for seven years as a director and a producer for a TV/Film production company in Tokyo before being admitted to Columbia University’s Graduate Film program. While at Columbia she received numerous awards and merit scholarships for her short films and videos. She also studied oil and acrylic painting in Columbia’s Visual Art department and started to work with a more abstract style. Her art seeks to apply luminosity of color, light, and flow to the inner stillness she finds by mediating. Her inspiration and creativity are derived both from her personal inner space, but also from her surrounding world.
Kikuko began practicing with the BZC sangha in 2011, later serving as fukuten (assistant to the tenzo) and co-tenzo (head of kitchen), was lay-ordained in 2017 and underwent priest training at Ancestral Heart Zen Monastery, Sanshin Zen Community, and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. It’s our joy to welcome her back to BZC for this celebration!
Jane Adhi is a Kenyan-American oil painter with growing roots in Harlem. Her work centers on the sacredness of setting the table. Her mix of Lou and English invites collectors to a table set to make room for her dyadic identities. As a self-taught artist with a background in engineering, Adhi applies an intentional, analytical approach to mundane objects, blending technical precision with independent artistic exploration.
Elizabeth Englander (b.1988, Boston, MA) lives and works in New York, NY. She received her BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design in 2011 and her MFA from Hunter College in 2019. Solo exhibitions include Englander’s first institutional exhibition at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT (2024); a. SQUIRE, London (2026); Theta, New York (2025); From the Desk of Lucy Bull, New York (2025); House of Gaga, Guadalajara (2023), Liste Art Fair Basel, solo presentation with Theta (2023); Theta, New York (2022); Smart Objects, Los Angeles (2021); From the Desk of Lucy Bull, Los Angeles (2019); Kimberly-Klark, Queens (2017); Entrance, New York (2017).
